Private Estate, Devon
This new build has been constructed on a site containing a small river, prone to flash flooding, so extensive re-profiling following Environment Agency advice was essential for the long-term protection of the building.  The supervision and construction work entailed:
  • paving around the rear of the house - 100m2 of sand stone all draining to one point
  • rustic stone walling planters - 600mm high dividing the paving from the lawn
  • land re-profiling - Rear garden built up 1.5m for river defence with 12,500 tons of landfill
  • lake construction with two tiered lakes and water fall feature connecting them
  • ground source heat pump installation
  • main entrance driveway raised up 3m to first floor garage / front door, -  20,000 tons of landfill with drainage blankets
  • river bank erosion defence
  • surface water drainage
  • installation of services: water, electric and wast
  • waste treatment plant installation
  • gabion walling and fencing
  • woodland maintenance

Paving
Built around the whole Rear of the building. 100m2 of Sandstone, a Tricky installation, as it was laid up under all the door thresholds of the level house but simultaneously all having to fall and drain to one end/drainage exit due to a (soon to be installed) walled planter edging it all the way around.

Rear garden re-profiling
The whole rear lawn was built up 1.2m with slight subtle ridge/bund for extra river flood defence.

Lakes construction
Two large lakes on different levels with the water flowing down between them through a natural stone waterfall and lawnmower access bridge above.

GSHP Installation
The whole property is run off a Ground Source Heat Pump system. 5 x 75m runs a meter down, including a portion into the lake.

Installation of main entrance driveway
The Property is a "upside Down" house with communal areas on the first floor. This included the garage and front doors, thus having to raise the driveway entrance 3m+ above current ground level. This involved somewhere in the region of 20,000 tons of fill, and the installation of drainage blankets.
